JR GAIATTO

Young and instrumentalist native of the State of Maranhão but rooted in São Paulo, Jr. Gaiatto is part of a new generation of musicians that have been distinguishing themselves with the strong impact in the Brazilian music scene.

Member of Seu Jorge's band, who is a singer and composer native of the State of Rio de Janeiro, he recorded the CD “América Brasil - o Disco”, through which he made tours throughout Brazil and abroad. With “América Brasil- a Tour”, he played in big festivals and stages of Europe, such as the IV Festival de les Arts Escèniques de Burjassot, in Valencia; Festival de la Musica Brasileña, at St Cruz de Tenerife-Canary Islands; Palau de la Musica Catalana-Barcelona; Sala La Riviera-Madrid; Pazo de la Cultura de Pontevedra and other Spanish cities. In Portugal, he played at the Lisbon Colosseum; Casa da Música, at Porto, and other cities. They won “3 stars” from the English critic with the concert at Royal Festival Hall, in London – UK in May 2008.

Since early, he became influenced by the local culture of his region, and his family, which already led folkloric manifestations, is part of his strongest musical origin. Self-educated, his first instrument was the guitar, but the love for the sound of the harmonica has existed long before. He developed studies with the harmonica players Engels Espíritos, José Staneck and Sérgio Duarte.

He began with the violin at EMEM (Music School of the State of Maranhão), and later had lessons with the virtuous Polish violinist Jerzy Millewsky; notwithstanding, his influences in popular music were more persuasive.

As of 2000, he coordinated the musical management of Boizinho “Encantado” (para-folkloric group led by his family), with which he produced three CDs and distinguished himself in a pioneer work upon recording of the first CDs of bumba-meu-boi [popular regional festival which takes place annually in North and Northeast Brazil] playing with the harmonica and violin.

He is also a member of other projects, for instance the “Paulo Campos Produções Artísticas”, company that operates in the production of shows and parties in the State of São Paulo and other Brazilian regions, with which he can join his violin and harmonicas to the “beats and bases” of great DJs of the domestic scene.

He worked in the recording of jingles, sound technique, creation and execution of soundtracks for theater plays. In addition to the harmonica, violin and guitar, he studies mandolin and the saxophone, and his influences go from Samba to Blues, going through Choro, Baião, Bossa-Nova, MPB, Soul, black music, disco music, jazz, Brazilian folkloric, electronic and country music.
