JOE MARHOFER

What started off as a game between neighbors became something serious. The band The Headcutters, made up of childhood friends at Santa Catarina is today one of the biggest representatives of Blues in the state. And it was precisely because Joe Marhofer joined the band that he fell in love with the harmonicas.

Right from when he discovered a harmonica his brother had at home, Joe could no longer stay without the instrument. “I know just a little bit to play a guitar, but it serves as basis for me to sing and compose,” stated the harmonica player. “I cannot play the guitar for long, I soon leave it aside to play the harmonica,” he jokes.

Influenced in harmonicas by Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter and Big Walter Horton, Joe Marhofer is a true lover of the Chicago’s Blues, so much so that his band recorded the last work in the same recording fashion performed on the 50s, in tape roll, only capturing the ambience of the instruments.

Active participant of the local festivals and organizer of some of them, the catarinense, also a fan of Muddy Waters, Jimmi Rogers is, together with The Headcutters, with the new ready work titled Back to 50’s, which can be checked on the band’s page on myspace: www.myspace.com/headcutters.
