UIRÁ CABRAL

Typical case of love at first sight, Uirá Cabral began playing the harmonica when he found the blues. And the meeting could not have been more promising: Uirá found at home, in his father’s stuffs, a disc pertaining to the American bluesman Muddy Waters, one of the icons of this kind of music.

It was precisely this disc (even better, with the harmonica player present in the recording) that Uirá became charmed for. At the age of 16 he began risking the first solos. He had chromatic harmonica lessons only to learn the basic techniques of the instrument, but it was with the Blues and the diatonic harmonica that he discovered himself musically.

Born in Goiás, more precisely in the city of Goiânia, Uirá is one of the great representatives of the local blues scene. He is a member of the known “The Not Yet Blues Band”. Altogether, “TNY” recorded three discs. Today, he is member of the group “Abluesados”. The band’s first CD, dated 2006, is yielding excellent opinions from the public and the critics.

Nowadays, in addition to presentations with the “Abluesados”, Uirá Cabral also has organized the festival for new harmonica players from Goiânia. In its 19th edition, always on the first Saturday of each month at the bar Alternativo, the event has an average public of 300 persons and presents new names to the harmonica scene, whether in national scope or restricted to Goiânia.
